Hardcore for the Holidays: Heavensake
Once again we find ourselves in New Jersey, where after a two year hiatus, the hardcore emo band Heavensake have reunited and are definitely making a grand entrance back into the scene. The band had taken brief break due to personal reasons and we hadn't heard anything new, music wise, in about 4 years. That all ended back at the end of October when they came back and out swinging with a new single called "The Industry Standard". The track packs a huge emo punch and we hear that sound wise, lyrically and it also has a very nostalgic feel to it. In the past the band has worked with big name producers such as Craig Owens and Nik Bruzzese. However, this time they took the DIY approach and I think we can all agree they nailed it.
November hits and they give us another banger of a track. This one is called "Asphyxiated".
From start to finish it has all the "it was never a phase" vibes to it and like past Heavensake tracks it's hard not to keep it on repeat.
Now to dive a little deeper behind the music of these emo Jersey boys, Heavensake was kind enough to answer a few questions pertaining to band history, influences and future Heavensake plans! Enjoy their answers below!
First off, congrats on the new tracks, they’re fantastic. But for those that may not be familiar with Heavensake, can you give us a little behind the music band history? Where you’re from, how the band came to be, etc.
Thank you! Heavensake’s homebase is in Laurel Springs, NJ. We practice and write at Skeeter’s house.
Mikey, Pat, and Sean met in college. Mikey was recruiting members for his band after a few members dropped out. Mikey, Pat, and Sean were drawn together by their shared similar tastes in music and got along when they saw each other on campus/parties. Skeeter was initially the recording engineer of their first EP. Soon after the EP was recorded, their bassist left, and Skeeter filled the spot. The band knew Tmass from the local scene. Tmass’s band went on hiatus as Heavensake’s drummer announced his departure. Mikey Lince, Pat Wood, Sean Bourke, Skeeter Seifert, & Anthony Massimini are the finalized lineup that have been Heavensake over the past five years.
Alright, you know we have to do it, who would say are Heavensake’s biggest musical influences?
Armor For Sleep, Can’t Swim, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, Real Friends, Circa Survive
Now you guys took a bit of a hiatus prior to dropping these couple tracks, what brought you guys to this decision and can we expect to have you guys back indefinitely??
The pandemic played a huge role in the breakup of the band. We all needed to take some time to focus on other priorities. There was never any bad blood between members. We just really didn’t have time to devote to the band. We are back now.
Can we expect to hear another single before the year is up? And any plans for a bigger release next year? Perhaps even some shows??
No more singles for this year. Expect more music though for 2023. We have been working on some cool stuff. We have no shows planned but are keeping our options open.
I think it's safe to say that Heavensake is back and ready to once again rock our emo world and feels.
