Letting Go In Buffalo

Last Friday the Buffalo, NY based band, Lost Like Lions, dropped their newest EP, Fear of Letting Go.

The EP is packed with all the summer feels and is a fun, warm listen to wrap up the season. Lost Like Lions was formed back in 2015, they also released their first EP,The Way of The World, the same year. Since then, they have given us a few more EP's and singles. Their sound is quite nostalgic and matured, and in my opinion their newest EP is giving me major Where You Want to Be (TBS) vibes and there's not a track you'll want to skip. LLL member, Derrik, was rad enough to answer a few questions giving us some background on the band, influences and recording the new EP!

1. Can you give us some Lost Like Lions history? Where you’re from, how did the band come to be, when did you start releasing music?

Lost Like Lions started as a side project of mine (Derrik) in 2015! I wrote the first EP (The Way of The World) and recorded it during the time with my old band. We played a few shows , and then life got in the way. Periodically, I would still write and record when I could which ended up resulting in the second ep (Navigate), it wasn’t until 2018 when we really became an actual band and started writing and recording music in full.

2. Who would you say some of your biggest musical influences are when it came to starting the band making music of your own?

You know it’s funny because I can rattle off my biggest influences and who I listen to the most, and it sounds nothing like the music that I actually write haha. Like, I spend more time listening to Death Cab for Cutie andnThird Eye Blind than any other artist out there, and our music sounds nothing like them! As far as that band that made me want to play music in the first place? Like most people my age, Blink 182 was definitely “THAT” band! They made playing music look so fun, and so cool.

3. Your new EP, Fear of Letting Go, just dropped last Friday! Congrats on the release! Can you give us some insight to the recording process, which of the songs you’re most proud of and was there a particular song that was most fun to write and record?

Thank you so much! The EP was a really fun one to make because we got to experiment with our process a little bit. That process began in Brooklyn, NY to demo/hash out the original EP ideas, then made its way to two other studios in Buffalo, and then ultimately in my basement for some tuneups. It’s a little unorthodox the way that we do it, but it seems to work well for us. I’d love nothing more than to just book a full month in a studio, but unfortunately that doesn’t work with our jobs haha.

As far as my favorite song to write, and record on the EP, I’d have to say my favorite was the title track “Fear of Letting Go”. It was a little bit of branching out from our typical sound, and took us down a little bit of a darker path. I think that experimenting, and that sounds and vibe will be something we are going to try and roll into our next batch of songs that we end up writing!

Fear Of Letting Go is streaming on all platforms! Please give these talented gents a follow, share their tunes and let this EP get you through the rest of summer ☀️ 🤘. Like to their Insta profile below!
