So Mature: SOS by SZA

The album, SOS by SZA, may have dropped as the clock was striking down in 2022, but it is indeed the anthem we didn't know we needed heading into 2023. Once again SZA delivers us a masterpiece made up of all the things we feel, are afraid to admit, never say and sometimes wish we hadn't said or done. It's pure accountability at its finest and it takes us on the sometimes messy journey of healing and growth, but also takes us to those moments of feeling fucked up and lost. With relatable tracks like Good Days, Kill Bill and Blind, she makes us feel less alone in our conflicts and helps us feel safe when we go through said messy stages. Her words reassure us that it is indeed okay to not be okay, sometimes petty, but also embrace our growth, maturity and steps forward. She also grasps those big moments of feeling secure with ourselves, but also easily triggered with songs like SOS, Low and Smoking on my Ex Pack. Her transparency with every track is admirable and this album is the therapy we needed pumping through our speakers.

The raw lyricism that SZA never ceases to deliver is also something to be praised and appreciated. She puts her heart, heartache, growth and personal journey on her sleeve through her songs and then hands them over to us, to do with what we will. From start to finish, SOS provides all the comfort, courage and stability to navigate through this sometimes chaotic journey we're on. It reminds us that pain is only temporary, to stay in and cherish those present moments, embrace all stages of healing (even the dark ones) and above all LOVE YOUR DAMN SELF, even in those not so mature moments that teach us so much. Even with its dark matter at times, the album leaves you feeling harmonious and at peace and that is the power of music and personal journey stories.

So if you've yet to take this album for spin, I suggest you do your ears, soul and mind a favor and keep it on repeat. It will mend that ache in your heart, help you find that confidence and reassurance that you've been longing for and most importantly it will just make you feel like that strong, badass soul that you truly are. Nothing but love for this album and the good days ahead 🌊.
